doctors ready for National Health Education Week 2018 Oct 16th - 20thSince 1995, the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) has done National Health Education week with the Department of Health. This takes place the third week of October each year to increase awareness about public health issues. National Health Education Week 2018 Oct 16th – 20th features a wide range of resources to help educate people about health issues going on. Not only does this include physical health issues in the United States, but it’s also about mental health issues.

National Health Education Week 2018 Oct 16th – 20th for Schools

SOPHE collaborates with many organizations during National Health Education Week 2018 Oct 16th – 20th, and one is the CDC. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is an organization that dedicates itself to saving lives and protecting people. On Wednesday, October 17th, SOPHE, and CDC come together in a collaboration to helping schools. Their goal is to help young people understand the benefits of maintaining good health as well as avoiding unhealthy behaviors.

There’s a major need for an expanded model to school health, and this needs to involve cognitive, physical, social and emotional development. This would help to increase the physical as well as mental health of each young person through education as well as practice. By getting the entire community involved, young people from all areas of the country can benefit, which can decrease the risks of struggles later in life. It’s important for young people to understand how poor mental health can lead to poor physical health.

This initiative targets the entire community through the following as well as more:

  • Physical education and physical activity
  • Social and emotional climate
  • Mental health treatment and social services
  • Family engagement
  • Health education

National Health Education Week 2018 Oct 16th – 20th to Decrease Substance Abuse

We live in a time where the disease of substance abuse is running rampant throughout the world, and it can start at a young age. More and more studies show that young people are beginning to abuse substances at a younger age than ever before. This is one of the primary reasons as to why National Health Education Week 2018 Oct 16th – 20th is so important for communities to get involved with. When someone is able to feel better mentally as well as physically, they’re less likely to need substance abuse treatment.
