Each year, National Women’s Health Week starts on Mother’s Day. This annual event helps to raise awareness about issues surrounding women’s health and mental health. More importantly, it is a reminder to women across the United States about the importance of physical and mental wellbeing.

What Is National Women’s Health Week?

This year is the 20th time that National Women’s Health Week has happened. It will last from May 12 to May 18, 2019. The Office on Women’s Health at the United States Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for leading many of the events and activities. During this time week, there are many awareness events and health screenings that women can attend if they want to take part in the celebrations.

How Can Women Have Better Health?

Sometimes, it is easy to forget about the importance of good health. Women can stay healthy by eating a balanced diet and getting regular exercise. In addition, it is important to go to the doctor for a well-woman visit. Preventative screenings and vaccines can also prevent and diagnose potential illnesses.

Practicing safe behaviors like protecting yourself from sexually transmitted infections is another way to stay healthy. Limiting alcohol consumption and quitting smoking can also help. These steps can help women enjoy a lifetime of good health.

While people typically focus on physical health, mental health is important as well. Managing stress levels and getting enough sleep can support overall mental wellbeing. Preventative screenings for illnesses like depression and substance abuse disorder are also a good idea.

During National Women’s Health Week, women can help other women achieve better health. Spread the word about this event by using #NGWHW on social media. Women can also take part in organizing activities and events in their local communities.
